How does a Freelancer Relax? It’s hard to switch off our minds sometimes to the varied project assignments we work on most days.
Fortunately for me, I have my trusty four-legged friend, Bailey—my somewhat-loyal English Springer Spaniel. Taking him for a walk down the fields where I live on the border of South and West Yorkshire, England, can be a massive stress reliever.
I took photo above this winter. Since I posted a photo of me, my wife and two kids recently, I also thought I’d introduce my trusty floppy-eared pet, too!
Do you have a dog? What other pets do you think can help de-stress and relax us after hectic days?

Looks like a nice dog there, Andrew. My family used to have a golden labrador, Sally, who died at the age of 15 about 6 months back. She was a great pet.

Nice looking dog. I have two dogs myself, a Shepard Huskie mix and a Chihuahua Terrier mix. Big dog and little dog.
I usually take them to the dog park so they can interact with other dogs. I find it relaxing.

@David → Labradors are really great, aren’t they? I had one as a child, before it ran off one day and was shot dead by a local farmer, but that’s a story for another day. Sorry to hear about your loss—she must have been a loyal companion…
@Josh → Sounds like you have your hands full there buddy! I’ve toyed with the idea of having 2 dogs, but have decided that 2 dogs and 2 kids would be too much for the space I have right now. Maybe when I move house…

Labs make excellent pets, absolutely. What a shame about your childhood dog.

FYI Andrew,
When loading your posts, your bookmarking button to “the web blend” is really killing the load times for me.
A split second to load all the way to the icon, then 10 seconds to load the counter in it, then onto loading the rest of the page, comments etc.
Something you might wanna look into…

Andrew → Thanks for letting me know. It’s been something that I have been aware of recently, and have been keeping my eye on it. I’ve moved it to the end of the line so it’s the last script to load to see if this helps thing. Please keep me updated
BTW Andrew, do you have a Gravatar sorted, or is it just not working properly?
PS, I think I recall that episode of the Simpsons

Ah, nevermind. I wasn’t aware before of how gravatar actually worked, I didn’t realize it wasn’t a local thing. I’ll be sure to set one up.

@Andrew → Glad you finally have one. I’m quite surprised you didn’t know about Globally Recognised Avatars before now, being a fellow WordPresser and all

I knew of Gravatar, when I set up my blog I disabled it and never look again basically

Since leaving a full-time job and becoming a freelancer I have found it very difficult to switch off from work completely. Even when out and about, thoughts of a project I’m working on or an idea for a blog post spring to mind. Hopefully over time I’ll learn to switch off more.

He looks fantastic – I love spaniels. And, on the subject of floppy ears, we have a 6 month Jack Russell – very naughty. She will chew up anything you leave on the floor.

I would love another dog. I had one from the age of 5 until just before my 21st birthday, it was heartbreaking having to get her put to sleep, but knew it was for the best. Now, Ive got 2 young kids, so I have been told that any pets will have to wait until they are a little older. I haven’t told her indoors yet, but I plan on getting an Alaskan Malamute, they are so beautiful…..but so big!
For relaxing? You got a dictionary at hand? Will have to look that word up!
