I’m always experimenting with my blog design and anything they may enhance it. I managed to get hold of an invite to use the new Hello Bar service recently. As can be seen, if you click the blue tab at the top right corner of the window, the “Hello Bar” appears.
The Hello Bar is powered by some code that is customisable. I have mine showing the status of my project bookings for the month, but it can be used for anything. Some suggestions would be for promoting an ebook or RSS feed.
Anyway, I’m trying it out to see if it increases the amount of enquiries I have. The great thing is that the statistics of how many times the bar has been clicked gets tracked. This info is accessible via simple login to the Hello Bar site.
I have #5 invites to give away if you want to try it out for yourself. If you think you’ll use the invite, please contact me.

Hey Andrew,
I’d noticed this bar a few days ago. Would be great to know how you get on with it and the results you get. I’m certainly seeing a few of these popping up all over the place.
Even more intrusive, though, are the lightbox hover things (I might have the wrong name for them). Usually a signup form that appears over the website a few seconds after you get there. I really don’t like those but, apparently, they work.

Rob → Oh yeah, I cant stand those boxes either. The great thing about the hello bar, though, is that it only pops down the for first time visits by a user and doesn’t cover the content. It just stays there for 15 seconds.
For the subsequent times, it doesn’t pop down at all. The Tab just “wriggles” periodically.

Nishad → Please email me the URL you plan to place the code in. I don’t believe they can be used on Tumblr accounts (the one linked on your name)?

Andrew would be really interested to see number of clicks that generated, not sure if it wasn’t pointed out that I would have taken much notice of it. Cool idea though.
Cheers

Rob → To be honest, the stats aren’t that great at the moment; less than 1%, but I’d only expect clicks from potential clients anyway. I’ll keep it in place to see if it generates leads. If not, I’ll get rid of it. I hope it works out, though…

Andrew,
I love the look of this bar, and how unobtrusive it is, yet is still noticeable. A nice addition to what you’ve created in this space.
