On the actual email image advertisement, the text is quite crisp. Sorry I should have mentioned this.Also, the image is a re-JPG of a JPG, causing image degradation. One of my previous articles about how images can be affected by re-saving in compressed formats is located here if you want to take a look:http://www.andrewkelsall.com/how-shocking-can-a-jpeg-be/Thanks for commenting :)

@Montana

I see your point, however, I scaled the image down to fit the proportions of my article column. Making it a darker blue, a maroon, or another bold but dark colour would improve the response. The designer should go for the condensed all-caps typeface OR the pale colouring, not both. This is because the typestyle loses its word shapes, making it difficult for the eye to skim the words. When the copy is a pale colour as well it doubles the effort it takes to read these words.
When I look at an e-mail advertisement I'll give it about 5-10 seconds to catch my eye and lure me in, after that its straight to the trash folder. I have a feeling that although this is a good idea for an ad, it would end up in my trash folder.

I agree that the idea for this ad is effective, however the blue type just isn’t as legible as it could be (in my opinion). I think many people who tend to use Skype and are willing to read these emails are typically designers and developers who would enjoy nice typography.Neil Gilberts last blog post..Defining Customer Service in Graphic Design

I think this ad works.
