These designs are entitled ‘DeskTop Secret: The Plane Project’ by Doopla Designers Collective. They are CMYK illustrations that graphically represent the main sections of an aeroplane. Surprisingly, there isn’t much information about these on the Doopla site, but I think they’re great.

The designs have been produced in vector format in Adobe® Illustrator, with cyan, magenta, yellow and Black (CMYK) being the only colours used. I especially like the repeating pattern photograph near the end of this post:

I really like the scope and variety of much of his work. My favourite featured here is the second image of the lit-up gazzele. It’s this style of conceptual thinking that I try to experiment with in my Designer Notebook, although my designs so far are more text-based.

When we were in the midst of the credit crunch, did you hear words like “sub-prime”, “CDO” and “Hedge Fund”, but had little idea about how they were all connected and how this credit crunch derived? Well, I was a little confused myself, but recently I came across this great 2-part infographic by Good.is.

After watching various reports about the credit crunch on the news over 2 years, I had a fair idea about what was going on. However, after just reviewing this infographic for just a few minutes, I suddenly knew 10 times as much.

I’ve been interested in infographics for years, and have always wanted to design one at some point. The good ones prove that amazing design can indeed teach facts far better than general information and articles.

Whilst on Twitter yesterday, I followed a link via @Retinart (Alex Charchar) regarding a great new site aptly named Learn Something New Every Day.

I’ve always admired fractal-images and art from the moment I first saw them. In a nut-shell, fractals are forms made out of mathematical formula; a better explanation is offered in the following quote:

A fractal is generally “a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,” a property called self-similarity. The term was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning “broken” or “fractured.” A mathematical fractal is based on an equation that undergoes iteration, a form of feedback based on recursion.
