I’ve had the concept for this poster in-mind for many months now. It’s based on the premise that it doesn’t matter what order the letters of a word are in—just as long as the first and last letters are in the correct place (according to researchers at Cambridge University).
For example, try reading this:
Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
Cool huh? I thought so too. My thinking is that the sentence on the poster design should read “You Can Read Better Than I Can Design Posters“. I hope no explanation is necessary regarding to humorous nature of the design (?) The image below shows some detail from the poster, with a slightly-patterned background effect.

Here I have a collection of 7 different high resolution textures free for download (link at base of post). There are photos of block paving bricks (both closeup and far away), tarmac road surfaces & brick walls in both red and grey colours:

Most of the images are in hi-res (up to 12 megapixels – 4000 x 3000px) so they’re good enough for use in print projects.
These free brick and tarmac textures are 100% royalty-free (and free to use commercially), but please credit this page if you use them online (although, this is not a requirement). I took the photos at various times throughout last year—and I hope you find some good uses for them.
Please note: these images are NOT for redistribution or resale online.

I love gradients. I don’t like them when they’re used incorrectly, though. The very common “corporate fade” (or strongly-saturated colour fading into white background) on many business advertisements in recent years have given gradients a bad name. However, when used correctly, gradients can give a sense of added depth and 3D-appeal to both print and web works alike.
On that note, here is a list of articles, tutorials, tools, code and downloads to satisfy any gradient-induced craving you may have. Enjoy!

Recently, I designed a RSS Feed Cube Icon for one of my sites. Now that I’ve used it once, it seems a shame to have the original vector Illustrator file just hanging around on my Mac—so I’m making it available to anyone who wants it.
There’s one file provided (with 12 colour variations of the same cube supplied) in .EPS and .AI formats—so they’re is fully editable, re-scalable and re-colourable…if there is such a word.
You are free to use them on your website or in your WordPress theme, etc, with no credits required. If you decide to offer them for a download on your website, please respectfully link back to www.andrewkelsall.com and leave the “read_me” file intact. Thanks…

UPDATE: There is a great collection of free RSS icons over at ProBlogger (if cubes aren’t the shape you’re after).
