As a freelance creative designer, I like to backup my stuff. I use Mac Time Machine to backup my hard-drive. I have off-site backup via Backblaze to create constant backups to a off-site server, too. I have a backup Macbook just in case my iMac goes on the blink.
I thought I’d covered everything—except a backup chair.
Yes, after years of use, I was just sitting on my office chair when it broke in half when I was checking my email. I’ll not mention the manufacturers name here, but lets just say that when I bought it, it was flat-packed in Sweden’s finest cardboard.
You can’t backup everything. Lesson learned.
Are you a designer? How’s your day been?

Wow – I never would have thought of backing up my chair! Thankfully mine is brand new, so I have quite a while before it breaks. I hope.

Jason → Being a good Samaritan, a gave my old chair away to a friend last year. Maybe I should call him and demand it back

Posts like this are the reason I subscribe! It just goes to show, you can take as many digital precautions as possible, but still be let down by analogue technology.
Oh well, it’s always fun to visit a certain well-known Swedish furniture superstore, right?

I suppose now you’re some sort of stand-up designer.

Paul → When I get around to it, probably. To be fair, though, I had the chair a few years. It sort of snapped in half at the metal joint near the top.
David → Just some holiday weight, albeit from LAST Christmas, Ha!

I don’t know if this is helpful or not (as you’re in the UK) but I’ve had a pair of ergonomic chairs by a company called Gregory for the last 14 or 15 years that have been great (and obviously lasted well…)
See them here; http://goo.gl/e3xUr
If you can pick one up in the UK, they’re great.

Andrew → Thanks for the link. I see the “Tech chair” is NZ Only, so if it’s too good for the Australians, then it definitely won’t be available for the British
